(My Sportsbook) - After a disappointing finish to a recent road trip, the
Tampa Bay Lightning will now begin a five-game homestand as they host the
Philadelphia Flyers in tonight's battle at St. Pete Times Forum.
Tampa Bay started a five-game road trip with a positive 3-1-0 mark, but the swing certainly ended on a down note, as San Jose ripped the visiting Lightning, 7-1, on Tuesday.
Joe Thornton registered two goals and an assist, as San Jose crushed Tampa at the Shark Tank.
Steve Stamkos was the lone goal scorer for Tampa Bay, which saw its two-game win streak halted. Karri Ramo allowed all seven goals on 42 shots in the loss.
The Lightning will hope to turn around their home play on this current residency, as the club is just 4-7-7 as the host so far this season. Tampa comes into tonight's contest with losses in seven of its previous eight home tests.
Beginning with tonight's tilt, the Lightning will play 13 of their next 17 games on home ice.
Tampa has had home success recently against the Flyers, winning six of the last eight matchups at the Forum despite the fact that Philadelphia has taken two of the previous three road games in the series. Philly has also won two of three overall against the Lightning, but the Bolts have still taken 14 of the last 18 encounters.
This is the first meeting between the clubs in Tampa this season, as they've already split two encounters in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Flyers are playing two straight in the Sunshine State as they'll also visit the Florida Panthers on Friday. Philadelphia, which is just 9-6-6 as the away team this year, will play on the road five times in its final six games of the month.
Philadelphia had an eight-game home winning streak halted on Tuesday, as the rival Pittsburgh Penguins notched a 4-2 decision at the Wachovia Center. Tyler Kennedy scored the first of four consecutive Pittsburgh goals to lift the Pens to the victory.
It was the Flyers first home setback since a November 8 defeat against the Lightning.
Joffrey Lupul and Mike Knuble had the goals for Philadelphia, which had been 12-0-2 since that Nov. 8 loss to Tampa Bay.
Martin Biron gave up all four goals on 26 shots for the Flyers, who had also earned at least a point in their previous six games (4-0-2).
