Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Oakland Athletics have avoided arbitration with outfielder/designated hitter Jack Cust, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract. Cust was Oakland's leader in many offensive categories last season, compiling a team-best 33 home runs, 77 runs batted in, 111 walks and 229 total bases. He also led the A's with a .375 on-base percentage and .476 slugging percentage in 148 games, while striking out an AL-record 197 times. Cust, who will turn 30 on Friday, played in only 70 games over the first five seasons of his career, spent with Arizona, Colorado, Baltimore and San Diego. Since going to Oakland in 2007, Cust has posted a .242 batting average, .390 on-base percentage, and .489 slugging percentage with 59 homers and 159 RBI in 272 games.
