Bronx, NY (My Sportsbook) - Infielder Angel Berroa, utilityman Shelley Duncan and pitchers Kei Igawa and Jason Johnson were among 20 non-roster players the
New York Yankees invited to spring training on Wednesday.
Berroa has not lived up to his 2003 season in which he batted .287 with 17 home runs and 73 RBI en route to picking up the American League Rookie of the Year award while playing for the Kansas City Royals.
KC traded the 30-year-old to the Dodgers last season, and Berroa started at shortstop in 64 of Los Angeles' final 101 games. He finished his 2008 campaign with a .230 average with one homer and 16 RBI in 84 total games. In 711 career games, Berroa is a .260 hitter with 46 home runs and 251 RBI.
Duncan, New York's second-round pick in 2001, made his first career Opening Day roster in 2008, but played in just 23 games while batting .175 with a home run and six RBI.
Igawa has appeared in 16 games -- 13 starts -- for the Yankees the past two seasons, posting a 2-4 record with a 6.66 earned run average.
If Johnson makes the team it will be the ninth of his 11-year career. Last season the 35-year-old appeared in 16 games -- two starts -- for the Dodgers and has made just 40 appearances in the majors over the past three seasons. In 255 career games -- 221 starts -- Johnson is 56-100 with a 4.99 ERA.
Others invited to Yankees spring training include: catchers Kevin Cash, Austin Romine, P.J. Pilittere, Jesus Montero and Kyle Anson, infielders Doug Bernier, Justin Leone, Eduardo Nunez, Ramiro Pena and Kevin Russo, outfielders Colin Curtis, Austin Jackson, Todd Linden and John Rodriguez, and pitchers Mark Melancon and Sergio Mitre, who was recently suspended for the first 50 games of the 2009 season after violating the league's drug policy.
