Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - Kristian Huselius registered a goal and two assists, leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-3 win over the
Colorado Avalanche at Nationwide Arena.
R.J. Umberger had a goal and assisted on another for the Blue Jackets, who have won three straight and seven of their last nine games. Jakub Voracek and Michael Peca also tallied, while Steve Mason made 23 saves.
Chris Stewart posted a goal and a helper for the Avalanche, who had won three in a row. Andrew Raycroft allowed four goals on 27 shots to take the loss and bid adieu to his career-high seven-game winning streak.
Voracek evened things up at one with 1:49 left in the middle stanza, then Columbus converted on the power play to grab the lead. Kris Russell slipped the disc to left side of the net for Umberger, who tipped it home at 6:46 of the third period.
Stewart countered 50 seconds later for the Avalanche, snapping a wrister that deflected off the glove of Mason. Huselius restored the lead for the Blue Jackets at 8:41, drifting into the slot and one-timing Manny Malhotra's feed between Raycroft's pads. Peca then made it a two-goal affair 30 seconds later, burying a rebound of a Fredrik Modin shot.
While on the power play, Ryan Smyth shoveled the puck on the backhand behind Mason to trim the deficit to 4-3 with 9:33 remaining. Raycroft went to the bench for an extra skater in the game's waning moments, but Colorado failed to produce the equalizer.
Despite an edge in play, Columbus trailed by a goal after the opening 20 minutes. Stewart fired a rising shot from the top of the left circle, handcuffing Mason, who was unable to secure the rebound that was stuffed in by Marek Svatos with 2:45 remaining.
