Sharks hope to end road struggles against Oilers

(My Sportsbook) - The San Jose Sharks will try to solve their recent struggles tonight when they visit the Edmonton Oilers for a battle at Rexall Place.

The Sharks, who lead the Western Conference with 63 points, have lost two of three and three of their last five games. However, San Jose has still recorded points in seven of its last nine games, going 4-2-3 over that stretch.

San Jose was handed a lopsided loss its last time on the ice, dropping Tuesday's decision in Calgary. Daymond Langkow scored twice to lead the Flames to a 5-2 win over the Sharks in a battle of Western Conference powers at Saddledome.

Ryane Clowe and Mike Grier scored for the Sharks, who failed to earn at least one standings point for only the fifth time this season (29-5-5).

Evgeni Nabokov started for the Sharks and allowed four goals on 18 shots before he was pulled in the second period. Brian Boucher made nine saves in relief.

The Sharks are now just two points ahead of Detroit for the top spot in the West.

San Jose is playing the middle portion of a three-game road trip and is 10-5-3 as the visiting club this year. The Sharks have lost two straight and five of their last six road tests.

The Oilers had a two-game winning streak halted Wednesday night, as they dropped a home test to Vancouver. Steve Bernier registered two goals in 12 seconds and added an assist to lead the Canucks to a 4-2 decision at Rexall Place.

Robert Nilsson and Erik Cole each scored for the Oilers, while Dwayne Roloson allowed three goals on 21 shots in defeat.

Edmonton is 2-1-0 so far on a five-game homestand that ends Sunday against St. Louis. The Oilers are 8-7-3 as the host this year and have won four of their last six home tests.

The Oilers earned an overtime win in San Jose on December 6 in the first of four encounters between the clubs this year. Edmonton has taken three straight and four of the last five meetings overall, but the Sharks have won two of three at Rexall Place.
