In addition to winning seven in a row, the Capitals have also come out on top in 12 of their last 13 games. The club last won seven straight to close out the regular season in 2007-08.

Washington exacted a bit of revenge in its most recent victory on Tuesday, as it earned a shootout decision against visiting Philadelphia. The Flyers, who beat the Caps in seven games during the opening round of last year's playoffs, had dealt Washington its only loss over the last 13 games with a 7-1 thrashing in Philadelphia on December 20.
Viktor Kozlov scored the game-winner in the shootout to lead the Capitals to the 2-1 decision over the Flyers at Verizon Center.
Kozlov was the first shooter and he lifted a backhander over Martin Biron. Jose Theodore then made pad saves on Simon Gagne, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter to preserve the win.
Nicklas Backstrom scored the goal in regulation while Theodore finished the game with 33 saves for the Capitals.
Washington is first in the Southeast Division with 57 points and holds a 10- point edge over second-place Carolina.
On Thursday, Caps superstar Alex Ovechkin was named as a reserve to the Eastern Conference All-Star team. It's the third selection for Ovechkin, who will be Washington's lone All-Star this year.
The Blue Jackets, meanwhile, have lost two straight on the heels of a season- high four-game winning streak.
Columbus was handed its latest setback Tuesday in Detroit, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Red Wings. Ty Conklin used 23 saves to record his fourth shutout of the season, as Detroit blanked the Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena.
Steve Mason allowed two goals on 39 shots for the Blue Jackets, who are 3-2-0 on a season-high six-game road trip that ends tonight. Columbus is just 7-12-3 as the visiting team this season.
Columbus earned a 3-0 victory over the Capitals on November 29 at Nationwide Arena in Ohio. The Blue Jackets are 1-6 with a tie over the last eight meetings and are 0-2 with a deadlock in their last three trips to the nation's capital.
