Ryan's natural hat trick not enough as Ducks fall to Kings

Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Alexander Frolov scored the game-winning goal to go with an assist, and the Los Angeles Kings spoiled Bobby Ryan's natural hat trick with a 4-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks.

Down 3-0 late in the second, Ryan, who was picked after Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby in the 2005 NHL Draft, tallied three goals in 2:21 to tie the game at three. It was the Cherry Hill, NJ native's first career hat trick in his 47th NHL game.

"It's tough to succeed and have a good night when everybody's not going as well as they would like to," Ryan said. "We got behind the eight-ball early, and we gave them too many opportunities, and we didn't take advantage of the opportunities that we had right off the bat. We didn't deserve the two points tonight, that's for sure."

Dustin Brown and Anze Kopitar each had a goal and an assist for the Kings, who have won two of three. Jonathan Quick surrendered three goals on 27 shots in the win for LA.

"Special teams did a good job," Kings head coach Terry Murray said. "Penalty killing was real good and the power play came up at the right time with a huge goal to take a 4-3 lead. We were doing the right things with the puck."

Jean-Sebastian Giguere allowed two goals on 10 shots before being pulled in favor of Jonas Hiller early in the second period. Hiller allowed two goals on 16 shots the rest of the way for the Ducks, who have lost three of five.

The two teams split the home-and-home series, with the Ducks winning in Anaheim on Tuesday.

Anaheim cut its deficit to two with 45.9 seconds left in the second period. On the power play, Ryan got the puck down low and fired it through Quick's legs for the goal.

The Ducks made it a one-goal game off the opening faceoff of the third period, as Ryan found a loose puck right in front of the net and stuffed it home just 16 seconds into the frame.

Ryan completed the natural hat trick 79 seconds later, doing a spin-o-rama around Kings defender Peter Harrold before eluding Quick in front of the crease and depositing the puck into the open net to tie the game at three.

But Los Angeles regained the lead on the power play at the 7:43 mark of the third. Teddy Purcell's shot from the point bounced off to the side, where Frolov was waiting to put the puck into the wide-open net.

"We knew we were capable of winning this game," Frolov said. "We played a really good, solid team game. We just gave up a couple goals at the beginning of the third period, but we didn't stop and kept working and scored a goal."

Anaheim pulled Miller with 91 seconds left, but they couldn't net the equalizer in the final moments, and the Kings took the victory.

After most of the first period went scoreless, the Kings took a 1-0 lead with six seconds to go in the opening frame on Brown's wrist shot that beat Giguere.

Los Angeles struck quickly in the second for 2-0 lead, as Wayne Simmonds found the back of the net just 37 seconds into the frame. The Kings made it a 3-0 game on Kopitar's tally at the 8:50 mark of the middle stanza.

Game Notes

The fastest natural hat trick in NHL history was posted by Chicago's Bill Mosienko, who tallied three times in only 21 seconds in 1952...Despite the loss, the Ducks lead the season series, 3-2...Anaheim fell to 9-8-2 on the road, while the Kings improved to 12-8-6 at home.
