Chapel Hill, NC (My Sportsbook) - Tyler Hansbrough had 24 points and seven rebounds in a balanced attack, and the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels bounced back from their first loss with a 108-70 rout of the College of Charleston Cougars.

Deon Thompson had 15 points for the Tar Heels (14-1), who were beaten at home by Boston College, 85-78, on Sunday. Danny Green scored 14 points, while Ty Lawson posted 15 points and eight assists in the win.

"Needless to say we feel a lot better than we did Sunday," North Carolina head coach Roy Williams said. "Everything feels a lot better. College basketball is crazy. Boston College comes in here and imposes their will on us and plays great. Tonight they play Harvard at home and lose by 12. It is a wacky business, and I understood that years ago, and I think it gets wackier as we go on."

Wayne Ellington contributed 10 points for North Carolina.

Tony White, Jr. had a team-high 16 points for the College of Charleston (10-3), which has lost two straight after a 10-game win streak. Antwaine Wiggins and Donavan Monroe each had 12 points in the loss.

"I knew this was going to be a tough game, but I hated that we gave up that layup with four seconds right before the half," said Cougars head coach Bobby Cremins. "At the beginning of the second half they went on a 7-0 run, and that was the ball game right there. I knew this would be tough. I knew they would be hungry. They're tough to defend. I was disappointed we didn't compete better."

Charleston kept the game close early, as Wiggins' three with 11 minutes left in the first half kept the Cougars within 24-21.

But Hansbrough's dunk capped a 9-2 run with 7:50 left to give the Tar Heels a 10-point edge, 38-28.

White nailed consecutive threes to bring the Cougars to within four just a minute later, but North Carolina closed on an 8-2 burst, as Lawson gave the hosts a 53-41 halftime lead on a layup with just seconds left.

The Tar Heels showed their muscle early in the second half, beginning the period with an 11-0 run to take a 23-point edge on Ellington's layup.

The Cougars never threatened from there, as North Carolina cruised to the victory.

Game Notes

UNC leads the all-time series with the Cougars, 3-2, and Wednesday was the first time the two met in Chapel Hill...North Carolina shot 58.6 percent from the field, while Charleston shot 33.3 percent.
