New Orleans, LA (My Sportsbook) - The New Orleans Saints fired defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs on Wednesday. Gibbs spent the past three seasons as the defensive mastermind of the Saints, who allowed the fourth-most points in the NFC in 2008. "This was a very difficult decision to make," said New Orleans head coach Sean Payton. "Gary Gibbs is a fine man and football coach who has worked diligently during his tenure with the Saints. I thank him for the many contributions that he has made to this team and wish for continued success in his career." Gibbs had previous stints as defensive coordinator for Georgia (2000) and LSU (2001) before a four-year tenure as linebackers coach of the Dallas Cowboys (2002-2005).
