(My Sportsbook) - The
Cleveland Cavaliers put their unbeaten home record on the line tonight at Quicken Loans Arena, where the Central Division leaders entertain a Charlotte Bobcats team in search of its longest winning streak of the season.
The Cavaliers are a perfect 17-0 in their home digs in 2008-09, and that success has enabled the club to open up a 5 1/2-game lead on second-place Detroit in the Central. Cleveland hasn't performed as well on the road, however, as was evidenced by a three-point loss at lowly Washington in its most recent outing.
The Wizards' Antawn Jamison recorded 26 points and 13 rebounds, and his jumper with 10.5 seconds remaining helped lift Washington to an 80-77 victory over the Cavs Sunday at the Verizon Center.
LeBron James amassed a game-high 30 points and dished out 10 assists for Cleveland, but the All-Star was called for traveling in the final seconds to end his team's comeback attempt.
The Cavaliers, who have dropped two of their last three tests, will try to bounce back against a Bobcats squad that has never won in eight lifetime visits to Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland has taken 14 of the 17 overall encounters between the clubs, including two previous meetings this season.
Charlotte has also lost five straight in this series.
The Bobcats will be entering tonight's clash off a successful two-game homestand that culminated with Tuesday's overtime triumph over the defending world champion Boston Celtics. Rookie D.J. Augustin scored 11 of his 20 points in the extra session to lead Charlotte to a 114-106 decision that snapped Boston's franchise-record 19-game winning streak.
Raymond Felton scored 25 points and dished out eight assists for Charlotte, which has yet to win three straight games this season, while Gerald Wallace contributed 23 points to the victory. Emeka Okafor added 13 points and a game- high 17 rebounds for the Bobcats, who also received 15 points from Boris Diaw on the night.
Cleveland, which hosts the Celtics in a marquee matchup on Friday, will play tonight's game without the services of center Zydrunas Ilgauskas. The 7-foot-3 veteran, who's averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds on the year, is dealing with bone chips in his left ankle and is expected to miss about a month of action.
