Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - The
Chicago Cubs traded right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis and cash considerations to Colorado for reliever Luis Vizcaino on Tuesday.
The move helps clear money for the Cubs, who signed volatile outfielder Milton Bradley to a reported three-year, $30 million deal on Monday.
Marquis, 30, was 11-9 this past season with a 4.53 earned run average in 29 games (28 starts). He has recorded double digits in wins in each of the last five seasons and is 79-70 lifetime with a 4.55 ERA in 257 games (198 starts) for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals and Cubs.
"The addition of Jason [Marquis] to our ballclub brings us the veteran leadership and depth to our rotation that we have been seeking to add this offseason," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd said.
With Marquis gone, Sean Marshall, Jeff Samardzija and Kevin Hart are expected to compete for the fifth spot in Chicago's rotation.
Vizcaino, meanwhile, appeared in 43 games for the Rockies last season and was 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA out of the bullpen. He had spent the 2007 campaign with the Yankees, going a career-best 8-2 for them with a 4.30 ERA in 77 games - also a career-high.
Over 10 years in the league with the Oakland Athletics, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Yankees and Rockies, the 34-year-old Vizcaino is 34-27 with seven saves and a 4.34 ERA in 528 games.
