(My Sportsbook) - The
Houston Rockets try to avoid their fifth straight road loss this evening when they continue a five-game road trip in Philadelphia against the 76ers at the Wachovia Center.
Houston has dropped the first two games of this trek, but did so without superstars Tracy McGrady and Ron Artest on Saturday in Atlanta, as Mike Bibby's three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining lifted the Hawks to a 103-100 win at Phillips Arena.
Carl Landry netted a team-best 18 points and grabbed five boards off the bench for the Rockets, who also got 16 points and 15 rebounds from Yao Ming, but fell for the fifth time in their last seven overall.
Ming, though, scored all of his points in the first half, and attempted just one shot in the final 24 minutes.
McGrady sat with a left knee injury, while Artest missed the game with a right ankle injury. Both players are questionable for tonight's contest. However, forward Shane Battier will miss the game with left foot inflammation.
Houston, which will close its trip with stops in Boston and Oklahoma City, is 10-10 away from home this season and has not dropped five straight on the road since November 23-December 28, 2004.
Philadelphia also comes into tonight's contest riding a two-game losing streak, following a heartbreaking 108-106 setback to the San Antonio Supra on Saturday at the Alamodome.
After being down by as many as 21, Philadelphia clawed its way back and eventually pulled even. The Sixers had a chance to take the lead with less than 30 seconds remaining, but a costly turnover gave San Antonio the final shot.
Manu Ginobili's three-pointer from the right wing was short, and the carom bounced to Tony Parker at the baseline with less than two ticks left. Parker, with Andre Miller's hand in his face, spun and lofted a rainbow that hit nothing but net to give the Spurs the dramatic win.
Philadelphia, which was led by Miller's 28 points, ended a grueling six-game road trip with just one win and have lost six of seven overall.
Andre Iguodala had a solid all-around effort with 25 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Thaddeus Young logged 19 points in the heartbreaking loss.
The Sixers are 7-8 in the City of Brotherly Love this season.
Philadelphia has won two straight from the Rockets after losing two in a row. Houston, though, has won six of eight in Philly and is 12-3 in its last 15 visits.
