Norman, OK (My Sportsbook) - In what appears to be a tremendous mismatch, the sixth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners play host to the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks tonight.

Maryland-Eastern Shore competes in the MEAC and has lost its only conference game thus far. The Hawks fell to 1-8 overall with a lopsided 88-56 loss to Nebraska on Saturday, and they are now 0-7 in true road games. All eight of the team's losses this season have come by double figures, and it is hard to find a reason to believe that the squad can even keep the score respectable tonight.

Oklahoma opened the season with 12 consecutive victories before finally falling to a talented Arkansas squad last Tuesday. Fortunately for the Sooners, they were able to get back to their winning ways on Saturday with a 93-62 romp over Coppin State. They are now 8-0 at home and will finally begin Big 12 play on Saturday against Kansas State.

This game marks the first-ever meeting between Maryland-Eastern Shore and Oklahoma on the hardwood.

Maryland-Eastern Shore entered the most recent outing against Nebraska averaging 50.4 ppg on 32.9 percent shooting from the field, and generating offense has clearly been a major problem for the club. The Hawks turned the ball over 16 times against the Cornhuskers and suffered a 30-23 rebounding disadvantage. While they did shoot a respectable 41.3 percent from the field, a 5-of-21 showing from three-point range was disappointing. Maryland-Eastern Shore did not play well at the defensive end in that clash, as the club permitting the Huskers to make good on 61.1 percent of their attempts from the field. Neal Pitt exceeded his season scoring averaging with 18 points against Nebraska, and Chris Conner added 11 points off the bench. Clearly, the Hawks were outclassed in that tilt, and they are facing an even tougher opponent this evening.

The best two players on the Oklahoma roster are a freshman and a sophomore. Let's start with the sophomore, power forward Blake Griffin, who many consider to be the best player in college basketball. Griffin is scoring 22.2 ppg on 66.3 percent shooting from the floor, and he is pulling down 13.9 rpg as well. As for freshman guard Willie Warren, he checks in with 16.3 ppg on 50.6 percent field goal efficiency. Tony Crocker rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 10.4 ppg for the Sooners, who are generating 80.4 ppg while allowing 65.4 ppg to the opposition. In the 31-point victory over Coppin State on Saturday, Crocker scored 20 points, while Griffin posted 14 points and 12 rebounds. Warren added 14 points and seven assists for Oklahoma, which shot 53.6 percent from the floor while limiting its overmatched opponent to 35.5 percent shooting. A 48-29 rebounding advantage also helped the cause.
