(My Sportsbook) - The
New York Islanders take their 12-game road losing streak to Edmonton tonight, as they get set to battle the Oilers at Rexall Place.
New York is last in the NHL with 28 points in 40 games this year and has just a 5-15-2 mark as the road team this year. The Islanders haven't won away from Uniondale since a victory in Montreal on November 24.
After going just 2-10-2 in December, the Islanders have dropped their first two tests of January, with both setbacks coming on the road. New York began a four-game swing in Phoenix on Friday with a 5-4 setback before getting handed a 5-3 loss in San Jose on Saturday.
The Islanders made a game of it late, as a short-handed goal by Tim Jackman cut New York's deficit to two before Thomas Pock made it a one-goal game with just 63 seconds left in the third. However, the Sharks managed an empty-net goal to seal the win.
Richard Park scored once and had two assists for his second straight three- point contest. He notched two goals and a helper versus Phoenix. Joey MacDonald made 42 saves in the loss, which has New York just three setbacks shy of its franchise-record 15-game road skid set from January 20-April 1, 1973.
The Oilers began a five-game homestand on Saturday with a victory, as Sheldon Souray had a goal and an assist to lift Edmonton to a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars.
Andrew Cogliano, Erik Cole and Dustin Penner each had a goal for the Oilers, who have won four of their last six games and improved to 7-6-3 as the host this year. Dwayne Roloson made 38 saves in the win while Shawn Horcoff had a pair of helpers to give him 200 assists for his career.
Edmonton did play a third straight game without Ales Hemsky, who is doubtful for tonight because of a nose injury and mild concussion. Hemsky leads the Oilers with 25 assists and 35 points this season.
The Oilers had dropped six in a row to the Islanders before notching a 4-0 home win on January 7 of last season.
The Islanders are 3-1 with a tie in their last five at Edmonton, but just 3-14 with five ties in the last 22 trips there.
