Brisbane, Australia (My Sportsbook) - Robin Soderling and Richard Gasquet were each first-round winners at the $484,750 Brisbane International -- a season-opening event on the 2009 ATP World Tour. While the fourth-seeded Soderling pounded Sweden's Sam Querrey, 6-3, 6-3, No. 7 Gasquet had a tough time with fellow countryman Marc Gicquel. The French pair split the first two sets before Gasquet broke Gicquel twice in the final set for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 triumph that lasted two-plus hours on the hardcourts at Queensland Tennis Center. In other action on the season's first day, American Taylor Dent edged Belgium's Steve Darcis, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, while another three-set battle was won by France's Julien Benneteau, who knocked out Robby Ginepri of the United States, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. This tournament was formerly played in Adelaide, and was captured in 2008 by Frenchman Michael Llodra, who topped Jarkko Nieminen in the final.
