New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby set a record for most votes in All-Star balloting and will be joined in the starting lineup by teammate Evgeni Malkin, while the other four starting slots for the Eastern Conference were filled by members of the
Montreal Canadiens.
Goaltender Carey Price, forward Alexei Kovalev and defensemen Andrei Markov and Mike Komisarek are the Canadiens who were voted to the starting lineup for the January 25 contest that will be staged at Montreal's Bell Centre.
Crosby was voted to start his third straight All-Star Game, although he missed last year's contest because of a sprained ankle. He received 1,713,021 votes, easily surpassing the old mark of 1,020,736 set in 2000 by Jaromir Jagr. This year's voting was conducted online and via text messaging.
Malkin recorded more than 1.5 million votes to earn a starting nod for the first time in his career.
Kovalev will make his third All-Star appearance and first since 2003. Markov started last year's All-Star Game, while Komisarek and Price will each make their first starts.
The Western Conference starting lineup is comprised of three Chicago Blackhawks and three members of the Anaheim Ducks.
Chicago forwards Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews were the top vote-getters in the Western Conference and will be joined on the front line by Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf. All three will make their All-Star starting debuts, although Getzlaf played in last year's game.
The starting defense will feature Chicago's Brian Campbell and Anaheim veteran Scott Niedermayer, while Ducks goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere will get the call in net. Campbell will start for the second time in three years, having previously been chosen a starter while playing for Buffalo, while Niedermayer will play in his sixth All-Star Game.
