Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - Andy Rautins had 14 points and added seven rebounds to lead 13th-ranked Syracuse past South Florida, 59-54, at USF Sun Dome.
Arinze Onuaku had 13 points and 11 rebounds while Jonny Flynn added 11 points and six boards for the Orange (14-1, 2-0 Big East), who have won five straight.
Dominique Jones had 17 points and seven rebounds while Mobolaji Ajayi added 15 points and six boards for the Bulls (5-8, 0-1), who have dropped three of four.
The game was tight early, but, holding a one-point lead, the Orange ripped off 10 straight points and held a 23-12 lead on a Kris Joseph layup with about 7 1/2 minutes left in the first half.
South Florida later cut into the deficit with five straight points, but Syracuse closed the half by scoring the final 11 points and took a 35-19 lead into the locker room.
The Orange continued to hold a double-digit lead through much of the second half, but a 12-3 run from the Bulls capped on a Jones three-pointer with 8 1/2 minutes to play cut the deficit to 50-44.
South Florida continued to chip away at the deficit and a Jones slam made it a two-point game, 55-53, but Flynn countered with a jumper with two minutes to play.
After Augustus Gilchrist drained a jumper for South Florida, Eric Devendorf made two from the stripe to keep the four-point advantage with 19 seconds left.
Jesus Verdejo then missed a three-pointer and Ajayi grabbed the offensive board, but he missed the layup and Syracuse escaped with the win.
