Edmonton, AB (My Sportsbook) - Brian Lee's first career goal at the 11:32 mark of the third period was the game-winner, as the Ottawa Senators ended a 12-game road winless skid with a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place.

Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza also scored for Ottawa, which halted a three-game losing streak and won on the road for the first time since October 30. Martin Gerber made 20 saves in the win.

Liam Reddox and Ethan Moreau scored for the Oilers, who saw their three-game win streak halted. Mathieu Garon allowed three goals on 25 shots in the loss.

With the score tied 2-2 in the third period, the visitors gained a power play when Edmonton blueliner Sheldon Souray was whistled for holding. The Senators worked the puck around the perimeter until Lee held control at the point, and his slap shot made its way through traffic and lit the lamp with 8:28 to play in regulation.

The Oilers tried desperately for the equalizer, but Gerber was sharp down the stretch and made several key stops to keep Ottawa in front.

"There were a few scrambles obviously in the third but I thought we had decent structure in our end," said Senators head coach Craig Hartsburg. "We didn't panic and it was a good step for us. It's a big win for us going back home for New Year's."

The Senators opened the scoring near the midpoint of the first period on Spezza's 15th goal of the season. Following a faceoff inside the left circle, the puck trickled loose and Alfredsson gained control along the goal line to the left of the net before he centered the disc for a successful redirection goal by Spezza from atop the crease at 9:56.

Although Alfredsson set up the Ottawa goal, his defensive mistake led to a 1-1 tie four minutes later. Alfredsson was in the process of a breakout from the defensive zone and cut in front of his own net before he lost control of the puck. The turnover led to a pass by Horcoff from below the right circle into the low slot for a one-timer by Moreau that beat Gerber at 13:57.

"When you're playing a team that's struggling, they're going to be desperate to get out of it and you have to show them something early in the hockey game," said Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish. "We knew we'd be challenged to a certain degree to create a bunch of offense but at the same time, we didn't start as hard as we needed to."

In the early stages of the second stanza, however, Alfredsson redeemed himself. He streaked across the blue line down the right-wing side and ripped a wrist shot past Garon 4:07 into the period.

Edmonton knotted the contest with 6:38 remaining before the second intermission on a rebound backhander from near the right post by Reddox.

The Senators are 4-11-2 on the road this season, while Edmonton fell to 6-6-3 at home in 2008-09...The Sens have won three straight overall against the Oilers...The Senators were 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Oilers were 0-for-1 with the extra skater... Edmonton's Marc Pouliot left the game in the second period with a mild concussion and did not return.
