Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - Al Jefferson finished with 38 points and 16 rebounds, and made a couple key shots in overtime, as the
Minnesota Timberwolves downed the
Memphis Grizzlies, 108-98.
Kevin Love added 17 points and seven boards for Minnesota, which snapped a nine-game home losing streak. The Timberwolves hadn't won at the Target Center since a 102-96 victory over Philadelphia on November 19.
Randy Foye contributed 15 points for Minnesota, which has won two of three overall.
"(We) can't lose our confidence," Love said. "And that comes from hard work. I've kind of been in a funk. We won two out of our last three and we need to keep it going."
O.J. Mayo had 23 points to pace Memphis, which has lost its last two -- both in overtime. The Grizzlies lost at San Antonio, 106-103, in double overtime on Saturday.
Rudy Gay added 19 points and Kyle Lowry ended with 14 points and 12 assists for Memphis, which has dropped six of seven overall.
In a close game down the stretch, Love had two free throws and Jefferson had a jumper to put Minnesota in front, 88-87, with just over a minute left.
After a Memphis turnover, Jefferson got to the free throw line and made just one for a two-point T'Wolves lead with 35.5 seconds remaining.
Mayo, however, answered with a mid-range floater on the other end to tie the contest at 89-89 with 27.6 ticks remaining. The Timberwolves held for the final shot, but Foye's attempt was off the mark, and the contest went to an extra session.
The clubs traded baskets in overtime until Jefferson spun in the lane and made a contested shot with 2:57 left. He was fouled on the play, and made the free throw for a 96-93 Minnesota lead. After a series of missed shots, Jefferson drilled a long jumper for a five-point T'Wolves lead with just over two minutes on the clock.
Minnesota held the margin, leading 104-98 after a pair of Kevin Ollie free throws with half a minute left, and held on from there for the win.
Minnesota held a 24-19 lead after the first quarter, but Memphis scored nine of the final 10 points of the second quarter to take a 39-32 lead at the break.
The Timberwolves scored just eight points, a season-low, in the entirety of the second quarter, and made just one field goal.
Shortly into the third quarter Jefferson had two baskets, with a Craig Smith jumper in between, to bring Minnesota within 45-44. Memphis still led, but Jefferson had a layup at the end of the stanza to get the Timberwolves within 65-61 going into the fourth.
The teams traded six-point runs in the early stages of the final stanza. Though the Grizzlies were in front by a possession or two, Minnesota drew even, 77-77, on a Love basket with a little over five minutes left, and it was a close game the rest of the way.
