(My Sportsbook) - The Columbus Blue Jackets ended a lengthy scoring drought last time they were on the ice. They will try to end a similar stretch tonight versus the
Los Angeles Kings, as the two teams meet at the Staples Center.
The Blue Jackets entered Saturday's test versus Philadelphia with three straight losses, having been shut out in each of their last two games. Jan Hejda, though, scored three minutes and 22 seconds into Saturday's 3-0 win to halt Columbus' goalless slide at 129:08.
Hejda's tally was his first in 25 games, while Andrew Murray and Manny Malhotra also scored. Steve Mason made 20 saves for his third career shutout.
Rick Nash leads the Blue Jackets with 15 goals this year but has just three tallies in his last 12 games and none versus the Kings this year. Nash has eight goals and seven assists in 20 career tests with Los Angeles.
Columbus begins a season-long six-game road trip tonight, but has dropped seven straight as the visiting club. The Blue Jackets, 4-10-3 as the road team this year, haven't won on the road since a victory in Atlanta on November 22.
Columbus will now try to end its scoring drought versus the Kings. The Blue Jackets have dropped both of their games versus LA this year by 3-0 scores and have lost three straight overall to the Kings. The club is also just 2-6 with a tie in its last nine at the Staples Center.
Mason has started both games versus Los Angeles this year and has allowed five goals on 59 shots faced.
Jonathan Quick was in net when the Kings faced the Blue Jackets on December 23, and he made 24 saves in what was his first-career shutout. After a loss in Phoenix on Friday, Quick turned aside 26 shots in a 4-0 win over the Coyotes to wrap a home-and-home set.
Quick, who allowed only two goals in the loss to Phoenix on Friday, should make his seventh career start tonight if the Kings decide to ride the hot hand. Fellow netminder Jason LaBarbera did make 23 saves in shutting out the Blue Jackets back on December 6.
In Saturday's win, Alexander Frolov scored twice and Jarret Stoll had a goal and an assist. Raitis Ivanans also scored for the Kings, who have won two of three following a four-game slide (0-2-2).
The Kings, though, have earned at least a point in eight of their 14 games played this month, going 5-6-3. Los Angeles is also 10-7-6 as the home team this season.
