Washington, DC (My Sportsbook) - Austin Freeman scored 17 points and Chris Wright donated 14, as No. 12 Georgetown doubled up Florida International, 76-38, at the Verizon Center.
DaJuan Summers added 13 points and five rebounds, while Greg Monroe netted 10 points for the Hoyas (9-1), who rolled into the holiday reprieve with a six-game winning streak.
"I think we're anxious to start Big East play...it's like the second half of the season, and now we need to focus on the next part of the season," said Wright. "We had a tough non-conference schedule....We have a tough stretch of games coming up and we need to be prepared for it."
Michael Dominguez scored over half of FIU's total with 20 points and Freddy Asprilla added nine. The Golden Panthers (4-9) lost their fifth straight and dropped to 0-6 in true road games.
"We've played UCLA and we've played Miami and we've played Washington close throughout the games because we've made shots and they missed shots," said FIU coach Sergio Rouco. "Today they came out on fire and we didn't. I tip my hat to the kids that are playing hard and competing for us because they don't have much room for error."
The Hoyas never trailed, scoring the game's first six points and reaching FIU's 38-point total on Monroe's two free throws with 5:18 left in the first half. The two shots from the charity stripe staked the Hoyas to a 38-12 lead, and the advantage grew to 43-16 by intermission.
Back-to-back threes by Freeman and Omar Wattad gave the Hoyas a 51-21 edge early in the second half, and Jason Clark's two free throws made it a 30-point lead at 60-30 with 8:53 to go.
Seven more points in succession, capped by Henry Sims' three-pointer, made the score 67-30, and the Hoyas coasted to the final buzzer.
