Spokane, WA (My Sportsbook) - Jeremiah Dominguez had 25 points, six rebounds and five assists, leading the Portland State Vikings to a shocking 77-70 upset of seventh-ranked Gonzaga.
Dominic Waters and Phil Nelson both chipped in 16 points for the Vikings (9-3), who posted their first-ever win over a nationally-ranked opponent.
The Vikings entered the contest 0-11 against top-25 teams since reinstating their basketball program for the 1996-97 season, and hadn't won in Spokane since 1974.
Portland State made 12 three-pointers, with Dominguez connecting on seven of them.
Matt Bouldin scored 18 points to pace the Bulldogs (8-3), who were coming off a heart-breaking 88-83 overtime loss to Connecticut on Saturday. Josh Heytvelt totaled 13 points and eight boards, while Austin Daye donated 12 points and nine rebounds in a losing effort.
"We got what we deserved tonight," said Gonzaga coach Mark Few. "They came out, outhustled us and outplayed us. Usually, you get what you deserve. It took us quite a while to get going. Then once we did get it going, we made some mental errors. We made silly decisions all night."
For just the third time since the McCarthey Athletic Center opened in 2004, Gonzaga was bested on its home court (55-3).
After a Julius Thomas layup gave Portland State a 67-62 lead with 3:41 remaining in the contest, the Bulldogs rattled off seven straight points to grab a two-point edge with just over two minutes left.
Waters then hit a jumper, tying the score at 69, before Nelson drained a three to put the Vikings ahead for good. Waters knocked down a pair of free throws with 30.8 seconds left to make it 74-69 and, after Jeremy Pargo made the second of two from the charity stripe at the other end, Dominguez helped seal the historic victory from the foul line.
Portland State raced out to a 15-6 lead less than six minutes into the contest, but Steven Gray drained a three-pointer to cap an 18-6 run and put Gonzaga up 24-21 with just under nine minutes to play.
The Vikings, though, refused to go away and scored 12 straight points to take a 33-24 lead before Gonzaga battled back and whittled the deficit to 38-37 at halftime.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half, but Portland State led 51-46 after a three-pointer by Dominguez
