Huntington, WV (My Sportsbook) - Miami-Ohio defensive coordinator Jon Wauford was released from jail early Wednesday after being charged with battery, a misdemeanor. Wauford was taken from the field in handcuffs at the end of Tuesday night's game against Marshall after an altercation with a fan. Wauford's Miami-Ohio squad had just been defeated, 36-34, on a late touchdown by the Thundering Herd. There were fans celebrating on the field after the game, which saw Marshall quarterback Stan Hill score on a one-yard run with five seconds left in the contest. Robert Flaugher, a 36-year-old fan from Pickerington, Ohio, was allegedly shoved by Wauford and fell, hitting his head on the turf. Flaugher was treated and released from St. Mary's Medical Center. The score that put Marshall ahead came after a pair of pass interference penalties against Miami-Ohio. The first call came after an incompletion on 4th-and-3 and gave the Herd a first down at the two. The visiting coaches' box at Marshall Stadium was vandalized, apparently by the upset RedHawks' staff. Wauford was a three-time all-Mid-American Conference defensive end for the RedHawks from 1989-91. He later played for Ottawa and Las Vegas in the CFL and joined the RedHawks' coaching staff in 1999. He is in his third season as the defensive coordinator.
