Boston, MA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox are reportedly out of the running to sign coveted free agent first baseman Mark Teixeira. According to the Boston Globe, Red Sox owner John Henry e-mailed several media members late Thursday night saying the team is "not going to be a factor" in signing the switch-hitter. Boston television station WCVB reported earlier that Henry, Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino and general manager Theo Epstein were in Texas Thursday evening meeting with Teixeira's agent, Scott Boras. The television station reported the Red Sox were offering Teixeira an annual salary of more than $23 million over eight years. The 28-year-old Teixeira hit .308 with 33 homers and 121 RBI last season. That includes a .358 average with 13 homers and 43 RBI in 54 games with the Angels after he was traded from Atlanta. A two-time Gold Glove winner and All-Star in 2005, Teixeira has a career average of .290 with 203 homers and 676 RBI.
