Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - Brandon Roy established a career-high with 52 points and hit the go-ahead shot from beyond the arc with 1:01 remaining as Portland finally beat the
Phoenix Suns, 124-119, at the Rose Garden.
Roy went 14-of-27 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. He also hit 19-of-21 foul shots and had six assists and five rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have won two in a row following a three-game skid.
Steve Blake added 22 points, 10 assists and four steals for Portland, which had lost the previous 11 meetings to the Suns. LaMarcus Aldridge contributed 16 points and Travis Outlaw scored 14 in the win.
"I haven't beaten Phoenix since I've been in the NBA. This is the best day of my career," said Roy. "A lot of my teammates stepped up tonight. It was a team effort. We needed this win. We proved we're tough."
Amare Stoudemire had 23 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for the Suns, who have lost four straight road games. Matt Barnes added 22 points in a reserve role and Shaquille O'Neal ended with 19 points and six rebounds. Steve Nash had 15 points and 11 assists, while Jason Richardson scored 17.
Nash hit a pair of free throws to give the Suns a 119-117 edge with 1:50 remaining, but Aldridge then hit a bank shot from the left side as the shot clock was about to expire.
Richardson's three-ball from the left corner was off the mark, and Roy hit a long-distance shot to move the hosts to the 122-119 lead.
"I can't say the basket was big, but my confidence was huge tonight," said Roy. "I just felt like every shot I took was going to go in. My teammates kept feeding my confidence. It was one of those nights you have to ride out."
Nash missed a three at the other end and the Blazers used their rebounding and hustle to keep Phoenix at bay. Outlaw missed a three from the right corner, but Greg Oden got the offensive rebound. Aldridge then missed a shot, but the ball hit off Richardson's thigh and caromed out of bounds with 12.2 seconds left.
Roy made two free throws with 9.8 seconds left to seal Phoenix's fate.
Portland was ahead 31-28 after the first quarter, but the Suns moved ahead by as many as nine in the second and held a 66-59 halftime lead. Phoenix continued to pull away in the third, expanding their cushion to 84-72 following a Nash three-pointer at the midway juncture.
Portland immediately used a 16-3 spurt to move in front following a Blake three-pointer. Outlaw's tip-in at the buzzer made it 98-93 Portland going to the fourth.
