(My Sportsbook) - The
Toronto Maple Leafs will try to record their longest winning streak of the season when they host the
New Jersey Devils in tonight's matchup at Air Canada Centre.
The Maple Leafs have recently earned wins over the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres, giving them back-to-back victories for just the second time this season. Toronto hasn't won three straight since March 18-22 of last season.
The Leafs were last in action on Friday when they notched a 2-1 decision over the Sabres in Buffalo. Ian White's tally with 7:56 remaining in the third period lifted the Toronto to the triumph at HSBC Arena. It was the first of six meetings this year between the Northeast Division rivals.
Jeremy Williams also scored for the Maple Leafs, who had lost three in a row prior to the current win streak. Vesa Toskala earned his 11th win of the season with a 24-save performance.
Toronto is just 5-5-4 as the host this year, but has won two of its last three games on home ice. After tonight's test, the Maple Leafs will embark on a three-game road trip, which is set to begin Thursday in Boston.
The Devils, meanwhile, will try to get back on the right track tonight after having a four-game winning streak halted Saturday against the visiting Sabres.
Thomas Vanek scored two goals and Derek Roy added a goal and an assist to lead Buffalo to the 4-2 victory at Prudential Center.
Kevin Weekes made 30 saves and fell to 2-4-0 on the season. Scott Clemmensen, who is 8-3-0 as the primary replacement for the injured Martin Brodeur, is expected to start tonight's game.
Bobby Holik scored his first goal of the season and Patrik Elias extended his point streak to six games with a goal in defeat. Elias has five goals and four helpers during his run.
The Devils are 7-4-1 as the visiting club this year and are playing the first of two straight on the road tonight. New Jersey, which will visit Buffalo on Wednesday, has won four of its last five away from the Garden State.
Toronto earned a shootout win in New Jersey on October 29 in the first of four meetings between the clubs this year. The Devils have still taken six of the last nine tests in the series and have also won two straight and three of four in Toronto.
