Dubai, United Arab Emirates (My Sportsbook) - Annika Sorenstam's career is over, at least for the moment. Sorenstam tied for seventh place in her final event of the season, shooting a one-under 71 Sunday in the last round of the Dubai Ladies Masters. Planning to retire after the tournament, where she entered as the two-time defending champion, the 38-year-old Sorenstam walks away from golf with 72 LPGA Tour wins and 10 major championships. She finished the event -- the last on the Ladies European Tour this season -- at six-under-par 282, seven shots behind winner Anja Monke of Germany, who closed with a 68. After taking the 36-hole lead on Friday, Sorenstam slipped four shots back with a 75 in the third round Saturday. Any chance of a comeback was derailed by a pair of early bogeys on Sunday. Still, the Hall of Fame Swede finished the tournament -- and potentially her career -- with an eight-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole as spectators and fellow golfers looked on. Everyone cheered. "When you get that kind of respect from the players, it breaks your heart," said Sorenstam, who won three times on the LPGA Tour this season and once on the LET. "I felt it today and it was very special." Sorenstam, long interested in starting a family, has left open the possibility that she will return to professional golf in the future.
