Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - The Kansas City Royals signed free agent reliever Kyle Farnsworth Friday to a two-year deal worth $9.25 million. The contract also includes a club option for 2011. Farnsworth, 32, has appeared in 612 games, mostly out of the bullpen, for four franchises throughout his career. The right-hander has compiled a 30-48 record with 27 saves and a 4.47 earned-run average. After two-plus lackluster seasons with the New York Yankees, the flame-thrower was dealt to Detroit at the trade deadline last season and was shelled to the tune of a 6.75 ERA in 16 appearances for the Tigers. With the signing of Farnsworth and the addition of pitcher Doug Waechter earlier in the week, Royals general manager Dayton Moore has restocked the bullpen after trading Ramon Ramirez and Leo Nunez in deals that netted the team former Marlins first baseman Mike Jacobs and former Boston Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp. "Kyle Farnsworth's power arm blends in well with the rest of our bullpen," Moore said. "We feel his presence will impact our bullpen and make it very strong." Moore was part of the Atlanta Braves organization in 2005 when the team acquired Farnsworth for the stretch run. He helped the Braves secure their 14th straight division title that year, as he saved 10 games, while pitching to a 1.98 ERA in 18 appearances.
