Boston Bruins will aim for a sweep of a home- and-home series when they welcome the
Atlanta Thrashers for tonight's meeting at TD Banknorth Garden.
The Bruins, who lead the Northeast Division and Eastern Conference with 44 points, began this series on Friday with a 7-3 rout of the Thrashers at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
Boston rebounded from Wednesday's 3-1 loss at Washington to win for the sixth time in its last seven games. The Bruins also improved to 15-2-1 since the start of November.
Phil Kessel led the offense for the Bruins in Friday's contest, as he had a goal and two assists to help his club beat up on Atlanta. Kessel is in the midst of a 14-game point streak and has 11 goals and nine assists during that run.
Kessel leads the Bruins in goals with 18 and is second on the club with 29 points. Marc Savard leads Boston with 34 points (8 goals, 26 assists) and had two helpers in the win over Atlanta.
Mark Stuart lit the lamp twice while Milan Lucic and Michael Ryder each had a goal and an assist for the Bruins.
Tim Thomas gave up all three goals on 33 shots and improved to 12-3-3 on the season.
The Thrashers were never really in the game as they fell behind 4-0 with just over eight minutes left in the first period. Atlanta would never get closer than three goals away from the lead the rest of the way.
Todd White, Boris Valabik and Slava Kozlov each scored for the Thrashers, who have dropped seven of their last eight games.
Ondrej Pavelec started in net, but was pulled just 8:41 in as he gave up three goals on four shots. Johan Hedberg allowed four goals on 20 shots before Pavelec came back late in the third to make one save.
Boston is now 2-0 against the Thrashers this year and has won four straight and five of the last six meetings between the clubs. Atlanta has also been defeated in three straight trips to the Garden.
The Bruins have an excellent 10-1-1 record at home this season, while the Thrashers are just 4-8-2 away from Atlanta.
