Auburn Hills, MI (My Sportsbook) - Richard Hamilton netted 28 points, and Allen Iverson went for 17 while handing out a game-high 12 assists, as the
Detroit Pistons edged the
Indiana Pacers, 114-110, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Rodney Stuckey scored 21 points, and Antonio McDyess 14 for Detroit, which snapped a three-game slide but has still lost four of six overall. The Pistons next travel to take on the Bobcats Saturday.
Danny Granger poured in a career-high 42 points to go along with seven boards and six assists for the Pacers, who have dropped five straight and seven of their last eight games. Indiana is now 0-2 on a four-game road trip and fell to 2-10 as the guest this season -- with visits to Milwaukee and Washington scheduled to close out the swing.
Rasho Nesterovic chipped in 16 points, while T.J. Ford logged 12 points and 10 assists. Troy Murphy had 10 points and 11 boards in the loss.
Heading into the fourth down six, Indiana opened the fourth with a 10-4 run, with a jumper Granger knotting the score at 90 with just under eight minutes to play. Nesterovic followed with a bucket that tipped the game in favor of the Pacers for the first time since the opening frame.
Indiana owned a two-point edge just inside three minutes remaining, but the Pistons struck for a pair of baskets, and an Iverson free throw put Detroit ahead by two with two minutes left. After a Hamilton jumper extended the lead to four, Jarrett Jack countered by making two from the line.
After a Hamilton jumper restored the four-point edge, Granger stroked a three- ball through the twine with 27 seconds left, but Detroit was hitting its shots from the line and kept the deficit at three with 14.7 seconds left.
Granger again made it a one-point game with an uncontested layup, and Hamilton hit for only 1-of-2 free throws, making it a 112-110 game. Ford came up short, though, on a floater from the lane inside eight seconds -- and Detroit finished off the game with two more free throws.
The Pistons took a 32-26 advantage into the second quarter behind a 14-5 run to close the opening frame and held a 63-57 lead at the break. Indiana came back from down 10 early in the second -- pulling to within two on a layup from Marquis Daniels with 3 1/2 minutes to go. Three straight buckets from McDyess and a Hamilton three pushed the lead to nine before Granger closed for the Pacers with a pair of jumpers.
Hamilton's drive to the hoop with just under four minutes remaining in the third gave Detroit its largest lead of the game at 11, but the Pacers got back to within six, 86-80, heading to the fourth on a layup from Jeff Foster in the waning moments.
