(My Sportsbook) - The
Los Angeles Kings and
Colorado Avalanche will both be seeking back-to-back victories tonight, when the teams meet at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
This is the third of four meetings between the teams this year and the first in Colorado. The Avalanche won both matchups in Los Angeles, posting a 4-3 win on October 20 and winning by the same score in a game that went to a shootout on November 22.
Colorado has won three straight, five of six and seven of the last 11 meetings with the Kings. LA, however, has won four of six and five of its last eight games in Denver.
On Sunday, the Avalanche opened a three-game homestand and posted a shootout win in an offensive affair with Vancouver. Daniel Tjarnqvist tied the game late in the third period and three Colorado players scored in the shootout phase for the 5-4 win over the Canucks.
Marek Svatos was credited with the winning tally, although Wojtek Wolski and Milan Hejduk also scored in the shootout, as the Avalanche beat the Canucks for the eighth straight time.
Hejduk had a goal and two assists in regulation, while Paul Stastny had three assists. David Jones and Ryan Smyth also scored for Colorado, which snapped a two-game skid.
Peter Budaj made 34 saves for the Avalanche and won for just the second time in his last five outings. Budaj is 10-12-1 with a 2.75 GAA and .901 save percentage on the season.
Colorado is 7-5-0 as the host this season and has won three straight in the Mile High City.
The Kings snapped a three-game losing streak their last time out, earning a shutout win over visiting Columbus this past Saturday. Jason LaBarbera logged his second shutout of the year and fourth of his career as LA picked up a 3-0 decision at the Staples Center.
LaBarbera was perfect on 23 shots faced, while Wayne Simmonds, Kyle Calder and Anze Kopitar provided the Kings offense with a goal apiece.
Tonight's test marks a brief excursion away from the City of Angels for the Kings, who played their previous two games in LA and will begin a four-game homestand Thursday evening against St. Louis.
The Kings are just 3-5-0 as the visiting team this season and have lost three of their last four games on the road.
