New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The 23rd-ranked Davidson Wildcats will collide with the West Virginia Mountaineers at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of the Jimmy V Classic. Davidson is 6-1 overall and has won four consecutive decisions since suffering its lone loss to Oklahoma by four points. On Saturday, the Wildcats squeaked out a 72-67 decision over a solid NC State squad in Charlotte. They will begin Southern Conference play on Saturday against Chattanooga and are expected to dominate that league once again. As for West Virginia, it is fresh off a 53-43 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday. The Mountaineers, who own the same overall record as Davidson, have won two in a row since falling to Kentucky. West Virginia owns an 18-15 series lead over Davidson, and the teams haven't met since 1994. It is no secret that Davidson depends heavily on star guard Stephen Curry to carry the load at the offensive end of the floor. Against NC State, Curry attempted 33 shots from the floor and tied his career high with 44 points in the narrow victory. LeBron James watched on as Curry fought through constant attention from the NC State defense. Andrew Lovedale pitched in 12 points for the Wildcats, who got 10 rebounds from Steve Rossiter. Through the seven games that Davidson has played thus far, Curry is averaging 31.3 ppg despite being held scoreless in one game against Loyola-Maryland. He is shooting 50.4 percent from the floor, including 40.9 percent from three-point range, and leads the team with 45 assists and 21 steals as well. Lovedale checks in with 14.4 ppg and 10.4 rpg for the Wildcats, who are netting 19.0 ppg more than the opposition on average. West Virginia is scoring 73.9 ppg this season while limiting the opposition to 55.1 ppg on 40.4 percent shooting from the floor. The Mountaineers are pulling down 7.1 rpg more than their foes, but their 59.7 percent shooting from the foul line certainly needs to improve. Da'Sean Butler leads West Virginia in scoring with 14.6 ppg, and Alex Ruoff is close behind with his 14.3 ppg. In Saturday's win over Cleveland State, Butler scored 18 points, helping to overshadow a disappointing five-point effort by Ruoff. Devin Ebanks pitched in 10 points and 17 rebounds for the Mountaineers, who limited the Vikings to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor while forcing them into 21 turnovers.
