Brown's boot sends Texans over reeling Pack

Green Bay, WI (My Sportsbook) - Kris Brown kicked three field goals, including the game-winning 40-yarder as time expired to give the Houston Texans a 24-21 win over the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

"Most of the time when it comes off my foot I have a pretty good idea if it is good or not," Brown said. "It came off my foot and I knew right away it was good."

Matt Schaub completed 28-of-42 passes for 414 yards with two touchdowns, while Kevin Walter had six grabs for 146 yards and a score for Houston (6-7), which has won three straight games after losing the previous three.

Schaub was returning this week from a four-game absence that followed a knee injury suffered in a 28-21 loss to the Vikings on November 2nd. In that game, Schaub sprained his left MCL on a low hit from Minnesota end Jared Allen, a hit that drew a $50,000 fine for the Pro Bowl defensive end.

Andre Johnson had four catches for 55 yards and a TD and Steve Slaton rushed for 120 yards on 26 carries for the Texans, who were coming off a 30-17 beat- down of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night.

Aaron Rodgers passed for 295 yards on 19-of-30 attempts with a pair of touchdowns and an interception for the Packers (5-8), who have dropped five of their last six games. Ryan Grant led the Green Bay ground attacked with 104 yards and a score. Donald Lee and Jordy Nelson had TD grabs for the Pack.

"It's disappointing," Rodgers said about the loss. "We had a chance to win. It's kind of gone the same script, so that's probably the most frusrating part. We just didn't make plays. We couldn't convert on third-down like we normally do. We just have to win a game. We got Jacksonville next week and that's all we can focus on."

With the game tied 21-21 and 1:49 left in the fourth quarter, Houston got one last chance to win the game in regulation. Starting on its own three-yard- line, Schaub completed passes to Vonta Leach and David Anderson to move the Texans to their 48.

With 50 seconds remaining, the signal-caller connected with Owen Daniels for 27 more, taking it to the Green Bay 25. After Schaub killed the clock with 28 ticks left, Slaton's short run put the ball on the 22 with four seconds remaining. Brown was then brought on and cleanly nailed the 40-yard field goal as time expired.

"That is as good a win that I have ever been around," Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said. "We are on cloud nine right now. We struggle on the road and to come here with all of this tradition and win that game the way we won it at the end will be special to all of us."

Houston opened the scoring on its first drive of the contest when Schaub, on the third play from scrimmage and under a heavy blitz, hit Walter for a 58- yard score.

The Texans appeared to be on the verge of putting another touchdown on the board early in the second period, but Daniels fumbled after pulling in a short pass at the Green Bay eight-yard-line and Tramon Williams recovered for the Pack.

After Williams intercepted Schaub, giving the Packers great field position at the Houston 23, Rodgers found Lee for a 20-yard score on the second play of the set, tying things at 7-7 with 5:07 left in the opening half.

Brown's 30-yard field goal capped an eight-play, 60-yard drive to put the visitors ahead with 1:50 left in the second. Brown then had a 41-yard effort drift wide right as time expired and Houston took a 10-7 edge into the break.

After one half, Brown's third try of the game, this time from 41 yards was true and Houston upped its lead to six early in the third.

Grant's six-yard scoring run put the finishing touches on a four-play, 79-yard drive on the first play of the fourth quarter to push Green Bay ahead by a 14-13 margin. The big play of the drive came when Rodgers connected with Jennings for a 63-yard hookup.

However, the Texans answered right back when Schaub's 11-yard TD pass and two- point conversion to Johnson gave the visitors a 21-14 edge with just over 10 minutes left.

In a back-and-forth contest, a Rodgers-to-Nelson nine-yard hookup tied things with 5:56 to play.

Game Notes

The Packers will play at Jacksonville on December 14, while Houston hosts Tennessee...The Packers won the first-ever meeting with the Texans, scoring a 16-13 victory when they visited Reliant Stadium in 2004. A Houston-based franchise had not traveled to Green Bay since the Oilers dealt the Packers a 31-3 setback at Lambeau Field in 1986.
