Stars visit Edmonton aiming for third straight win

(My Sportsbook) - Having won back-to-back games for the first time this season, the Dallas Stars will try for three straight victories when they visit the struggling Edmonton Oilers for tonight's matchup at Rexall Place.

The Stars have earned wins over Edmonton and Calgary and notched a 3-1 decision over the Flames on Tuesday, although Dallas' controversial forward Sean Avery garnered most of the headlines for off-ice comments made prior to the contest.

Before the game, the National Hockey League suspended Avery indefinitely, pending a hearing with commissioner Gary Bettman. The renowned pest and antagonist was disciplined due to inappropriate public comments he made to the local Calgary media on Tuesday morning that did not pertain to the game.

During a television interview, Avery used a rude term about his ex-girlfriends dating other players in the league. Avery was linked romantically to model Rachel Hunter, and his ex-girlfriend, actress Elisha Cuthbert, best known for her role on the Fox show "24", is dating Calgary defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

In the game, Fabian Brunnstrom's second-period tally proved to be the game- winner, as the Stars defeated the Flames at the Saddledome.

Toby Petersen and Loui Eriksson also scored for the Stars. Marty Turco, who entered play with a dreadful 3.61 goals-against average and poor .868 save percentage, made 36 saves for Dallas.

The Stars are 6-7-1 as the visiting team this year and following tonight's test will return to Texas to begin a three-game homestand Friday against Colorado.

Dallas has had a great deal of success against the Oilers in recent memory, winning seven straight and 10 of the last 11 meetings between the clubs. The Stars have also won seven straight and 10 of their last 13 tests in Edmonton.

The Oilers have lost three of four and are just 2-5-1 since last winning consecutive games with victories over New Jersey and the New York Rangers on November 9 and 10.

Edmonton last played on Sunday and lost a road test to the Stars. This doesn't constitute a home-and-home series, however, because Dallas played the Flames in between the meetings.

Mike Modano netted the game-winning goal with 2:21 left in regulation as the Stars notched the 4-3 decision over the Oilers at American Airlines Center. Modano also had an assist and with his two-point effort became the 31st player in NHL history to reach the 1,300-point plateau.

Kyle Brodziak tallied twice and Sheldon Souray assisted on all three Edmonton goals with Ales Hemsky also lighting the lamp for the Oilers.

Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers was victimized for four goals on 26 shots in taking the loss.

The Oilers are 2-3-2 as the host this year and have dropped five straight at Rexall Place. Edmonton will play its next two games on the road, beginning with Friday's matchup in Los Angeles and ending the following night in San Jose.
