Blackhawks try to get back on track in LA

(My Sportsbook) - The Chicago Blackhawks will try to avoid a third consecutive loss when they visit the Los Angeles Kings for an afternoon battle at the Staples Center.

Today's test marks the end of a six-game road trip for the Blackhawks, who began the swing with three straight victories before losing in overtime to San Jose on Wednesday and dropping a 1-0 decision in Anaheim on Friday.

Anaheim's Ryan Getzlaf scored the only goal of the game and Jonas Hiller recorded his second career shutout to lift the Ducks to the victory at the Honda Center.

Cristobal Huet turned in a solid performance between the pipes for Chicago, stopping 20-of-21 shots in loss. Huet may get the start again today as Nikolai Khabibulin is suffering from a lower-body injury.

Khabibulin, who has been the primary goaltender for the Blackhawks this year, didn't dress for Friday's game in Anaheim, but is still listed as day-to-day.

The Blackhawks are 4-4-2 as the visiting team this season. The club will return to the Windy City for their next game -- a rematch with the Ducks this Wednesday at the United Center.

The Kings ended a two-game losing streak recently, as they edged the Oilers in Edmonton on Wednesday night. Los Angeles posted just its second win in six games by posting the 2-1 decision at Rexall Place.

Anze Kopitar and Patrick O'Sullivan both recorded a goal and an assist to lift the Kings to the victory. Jason LaBarbera stopped 22 shots, including all seven he faced in the third period, for the Kings.

Kopitar, who leads LA with 18 points, has reached the scoresheet in four straight games, posting three goals and two assists during his longest point streak of the season.

Today's outing is the first of two straight on home ice for the Kings, who are 6-5-3 as the host this season. Los Angeles will also invite the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Staples Center on Monday.

The Kings have won three of the last five encounters with Chicago, but the Blackhawks have come out on top in three of their previous four trips to the City of Angels.

This is the first of four matchups between the clubs this season. They won't meet again until January 29, when LA hosts the Blackhawks.
