Huntington, WV (My Sportsbook) - Marshall backup quarterback Stan Hill will do the signal calling for the Thundering Herd on Tuesday against Miami of Ohio. Hill, who is making his first career start, is 16-of-27 passing for 140 yards with no touchdown passes and one interception in seven games this season. Starting quarterback and Heisman candidate Byron Leftwich is hampered with a sore left shin and will not play. Leftwich injured his shin in a 34-20 loss at Akron on November 2. Leftwich left the game in the first quarter after taking a hit and returned in the third quarter after X-rays taken were negative. Despite the injury, Leftwich completed 26-of-38 passes for 307 yards. He leads the nation in total offense averaging 375.5 yards a game, and has tossed 19 touchdowns against seven interceptions. Leftwich underwent treatments since the injury and missed practice last week. A win would put the Herd (6-2, 4-1 MAC) in the East Division driver's seat with two games to go. A defeat would all but eliminate Marshall's hopes of reaching the MAC championship game for a sixth consecutive season. The Redhawks (7-3, 5-1) haven't beaten Marshall since 1997, the Herd's first season in the MAC. Four straight losses have followed.
