Stuttgart, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Markus Babbel has admitted to being nervous and shocked after being handed the coaching reins at Stuttgart. The former Bayern Munich and Germany defender has been placed in charge at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion following the surprise decision to part company with coach Armin Veh. Veh was axed following Stuttgart's 4-1 thrashing at Wolfsburg on Saturday with the club languishing down in 11th place in the Bundesliga table. "I was definitely surprised by the opportunity but it was a nice surprise," said Babbel, who was Veh's number two. "I am inheriting a team that is going through a tough period but I have every belief in their potential. The onus is now on me to convince them of their ability and it won't be easy. "Now it's like we're starting from scratch and it's vital that the players get their heads clear. I'll be paying very close attention to who's up for the fight. "I'm going to be nervous and will be thrown into the deep end but I'll learn how to swim fast." (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
