Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - Former Boston Bruins head coach Mike Sullivan has rejoined the Tampa Bay Lightning as an assistant under interim head coach Rick Tocchet. Sullivan was an assistant with the Lightning during the 2007-08 season. He was the head coach of the Bruins for two seasons and posted a record of 70-56-15-23. "We are excited to add Mike to our coaching staff," said Lightning general manager Brian Lawton. "He's been here and knows the players well, and he's an upgrade to the overall quality of our coaching. Mike is highly respected throughout the league and has been successful as a head coach at the NHL, AHL and international levels." In his first season as head coach of the Bruins in 2003-04, Sullivan guided the club to 104 points and a Northeast Division title. He was the head coach of the club's AHL affiliate in Providence before taking over the Bruins job. The Lightning coaching staff has been in a state of flux since Tocchet took over as head coach when Barry Melrose was fired November 14. Wes Walz will remain an assistant on Tocchet's staff, while Cap Raeder will become the goaltending coach and oversee the development of the organization's netminders in the NHL, AHL and ECHL.
