New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Connecticut remained the top team in the latest Associated Press women's college
basketball poll, but the Huskies are not a unanimous selection after a tumultuous week of play.
The Huskies (3-0) earned all but one of the 45 first-place votes and a total of 1,124 points from a nationwide media panel.
North Carolina (5-0) picked up the other first-place vote this week and 1,070 points, moving up two spots from fourth to second. The Tar Heels knocked off then No. 2 Oklahoma, 80-79, in the championship game of the Preseason WNIT this past weekend.
The Sooners slipped to fourth after the loss, while California vaulted four places from seventh to third. The Golden Bears beat then No. 3 Rutgers for their signature win last week.
Stanford moved up three spots to fifth, while Baylor climbed four places to sixth. Louisville, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Maryland complete this week's top 10.
The second 10 consists of Texas, Duke, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Auburn, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma State, Purdue and Ohio State. Rutgers, in addition to its loss to Cal, also lost to Stanford and dropped 10 spots.
Arizona State, TCU, Old Dominion, Michigan State, Iowa State and Xavier are the last six teams ranked. Iowa State, new to the poll this week along with Michigan State, and Xavier tied for the 25th spot.
Florida State was the lone team to drop out of the rankings after a loss to Florida.
