Hamburg, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Ivica Olic scored a world-class goal in the 75th minute to give Hamburg a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen at HSH Nordbank Arena on Sunday.
Jose Paolo Guerrero scored six minutes into the game for Hamburg, but Diego's seventh goal of the season midway through the opening half sent both sides into halftime on level terms. However, Olic seized the points for his side with a stunning left-footed strike that takes Hamburg into fifth place, five points behind league-leaders Hoffenheim.
Bremen, meanwhile, remains in ninth after having its three-game unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga snapped.
Hamburg got off to a flying start as it made the most of its first set-piece chance six minutes into the game.
Mladen Petric curled a wicked free-kick towards the bottom corner of the net from the right wing, forcing Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese to make a diving stop. However, the ball fell into the path of Guerrero, and he slammed home the rebound to put the hosts in front.
Bremen also used a dead-ball situation to get onto the scoreboard with Diego drawing a foul at the top of the box and proceeding to smack a wonderful free- kick over the wall and off the fingertips of Hamburg keeper Frank Rost before settling inside the right post.
The pace slowed a bit after the restart and there were fewer chances being created by both sides. However, a piece of individual brilliance from Olic with 15 minutes to play sparked the game back to life.
Olic took possession on the right wing and cut the ball back towards the box. He then smashed a left-footed shot from 25 yards that flew past the keeper and off the far post before finding the back of the net.
Bremen had a number of free-kicks in the Hamburg half of the field but they couldn't do anything with them, and Guerrero had a chance to add to the lead in the 84th minute but he lobbed the ball over the net with Wiese well off his line.
