Streaking Bruins try to halt eight-game slide in Montreal

(My Sportsbook) - The Bruins ended their epic losing streak against the Canadiens in the last matchup between the two Northeast Division rivals. Boston will now try to end its skid in Montreal, where the two teams meet tonight at the Bell Centre.

The Bruins dropped a 4-3 shootout decision in Montreal on October 15, their 12th straight setback to the Canadiens. However, that slide came to an end in Boston on November 13 thanks to a 6-1 blowout victory that featured a pair of goals out of Stephane Yelle and Marco Sturm and the club's first win in the series since March 3, 2007.

The Bruins will now try to post a victory in Montreal, where they have dropped eight straight and haven't won in since December 4, 2006. Boston will also try for back-to-back wins against the Habs for the first time since December 23 and March 3 during the 2006-07 season.

Boston enters this game with a load of momentum, as last night's 4-2 win over Florida was its third straight and eighth in nine games (8-0-1). The Bruins posted a point in nine straight games for the first time since going 4-0-5 from October 22-November 8, 2005.

Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard each picked up a goal and one assist, while David Krejci and Phil Kessel also scored. Savard now has two goals and nine assists over a five-game point streak, notching multiple points in each of the last four games. Kessel, meanwhile, has a career-best five-game point streak (3 goals, 3 assists) and has scored in three straight games.

Tim Thomas stopped 30 shots for the Bruins, who are 6-2-3 on the road this year.

Thomas made 25 saves in Boston's first loss to Montreal this year, and it was Manny Fernandez who turned aside 27 saves in helping the Bruins end their losing streak to the Habs.

Both goalies are hot right now, as Thomas is 7-1-1 in his last nine starts with a 1.41 goals against average. Fernandez, meanwhile, has won his last four starts and is 5-0-1 with a 2.30 GAA over his last six games.

Montreal's Saku Koivu has scored in both games against Boston this year and also tallied a goal in Thursday's 3-2 shootout victory against Ottawa. Andrei Markov also scored in regulation, while Alex Tanguay had the game-winner in the shootout, beating Senators netminder Alex Auld through the pads.

Koivu has notched a point in seven of his last nine games, recording three goals and four assists.

Carey Price, meanwhile, made 23 saves in the victory. Price has been in net for both games against Boston this year, making 31 saves in the home October win before allowing all six goals in November's test.

Montreal, which is 5-2-0 at home this season, has still won 19 of its last 23 against Boston.
