Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - J.P. Dumont scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 2:28 remaining in the third period, boosting the
Nashville Predators to a 3-1 win over the
Los Angeles Kings.
Shea Weber was credited with an empty-net tally with 47.7 seconds left, even though LA's Dustin Brown sent the disc the length of the ice into his own net.
Jason Arnott also scored for the Predators, who finished 3-3 on a six-game road trip. Dan Ellis made 33 saves in the win, Nashville's third straight.
"I think that's the first time we won all three games in California," said Nashville coach Barry Trotz. "Our overall record in these buildings isn't very good and we found out a lot about ourselves. Tonight we got some good goaltending real early and we battled through it. They got a lot of structure and they don't give you a lot and so we battled through that."
Michal Handzus had the lone goal for the Kings, who had a four-game win streak broken. Erik Ersberg made 19 saves.
The Predators took advantage of a Drew Doughty hooking penalty with 3 1/2 minutes left to go. Ville Koistinen sent the puck toward the net from above the left circle. The disc deflected behind the net, where Arnott got his stick on it before it became loose in the crease to Dumont, who scored.
In the final minute, Brown then tried to send a pass to the point, but the puck skipped through players all the way to the net.
"We were the better team out there, without a doubt," said Doughty. "I thought we played hard and we battled. We definitely deserved better. I think that was our game to win and they got that power-play goal at the end and they scored and that was our downfall."
Arnott scored midway through the second period. Ellis sent a long outlet pass to Martin Erat at the far blue line, along the left boards. Erat dished to Dumont, who whipped the puck through the crease to Arnott for the goal.
Handzus evened the score less than five minutes later on a redirection of a Kyle Quincey shot from the left point.
