(My Sportsbook) - The
Colorado Avalanche will take aim at their third straight victory when they visit the
Edmonton Oilers for a Northwest Division clash at Rexall Place.
The Avalanche snapped a five-game losing streak with last Saturday's 1-0 decision over Nashville and began a three-game road trip with a shootout win against Vancouver on Thursday.
Marek Svatos ended a goaltending clinic from both sides with the game-winning score in the shootout to lift Colorado over Vancouver, 2-1, at General Motors Place.
Svatos also registered a third-period goal to tie and extend the game and Peter Budaj, who was coming off the shutout of the Predators, denied Vancouver on 31-of-32 shots to claim victory.
Budaj had lost his previous four starts before posting wins in his last two outings. The 26-year-old Czech native has fared well in his career against the Oilers, posting a 10-3-2 record in 15 career games versus Edmonton.
Colorado, which is 3-4-0 as the visiting team this year, will also make a stop in Calgary this Tuesday to complete its three-game tour of western Canada. That test against the Flames will also begin a home-and-home series between the division rivals with the return trip to Colorado taking place Thursday.
The Oilers, meanwhile, had a two-game win streak snapped Thursday evening by visiting Toronto. Tomas Kaberle had a goal and two assists as the Maple Leafs beat up Edmonton, 5-2.
Sam Gagner and Ethan Moreau each lit the lamp for the Oilers, who have dropped three of their last five outings.
Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers was charged with five goals on 29 shots in the loss. It was the worst outing of the 24-year-old rookie's brief career, as Drouin- Deslauriers had given up a total of six goals in his other four NHL outings.
Edmonton is 2-1-1 as the host this year and is playing the second of two straight tests at Rexall Place tonight.
The Avalanche and Oilers have already played each other twice this year with each team winning a game on their home ice. Colorado has taken two of three and seven of the last 10 meetings overall, but has dropped three in a row in Edmonton.
