Singapore (My Sportsbook) - Chih Bing Lam posted a four-under 67 on Thursday to steal the spotlight from many of the big names and move in front during the first round of the Singapore Open.
"It just feels good to be here, I guess I played very solidly and hit quite a number of greens and holed some good putts," noted Lam. "I'm very thrilled."
The first round was delayed by slightly over two hours because of lightning. The second half of tee times did not complete round one and will return Friday to finish the round.
Ernie Els is a player who will return on Friday. He is three-under par on the back nine and is part of a group tied for second place, including Marcus Both who is in the clubhouse at three-under 68.
Two-time major winner in 2008, Padraig Harrington, only managed a one-over 72 on Friday.
"I certainly had the potential to be better, but it is a 72 and I am encouraged by the way I hit it," said Harrington. "Definitely, I left a few shots out there and that needs to be better the next three days."
Phil Mickelson, the world No. 3, was one worse than Harrington with a two-over 73 in the opening round.
"I know two-over par does not sound good, but I will actually take it," admitted Mickelson. "I got off to a terrible start and I was three-over early. It was windy and raining - it was a lot tougher. So I will take the two-over. I need to get out tomorrow and get off to a good start and make some birdies. I do not feel I shot myself out of the tournament by any means."
Adam Scott, the 2006 champion, struggled to a five-over 76 on Thursday.
