Iverson leads Pistons past Kings

Sacramento, CA (My Sportsbook) - Allen Iverson posted a terrific all-around effort in getting his first win in a Pistons uniform, logging 30 points, nine assists and seven rebounds in Detroit's 100-92 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Tayshaun Prince added 26 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, who were coming off their first two losses of the young season.

"It is a huge lift off of me," said Iverson. "I knew it would happen, but you think it is going to happen every time you go out there. I wanted to get the monkey off my back. It feels good. I hope to get a lot more now."

Richard Hamilton, who was 0-for-8 from the field in a setback at Boston on Sunday, again struggled with his jumper, hitting 4-of-16 from the floor but still contributed 17 points to the winning effort.

"We picked it up. We found a sense of urgency," said Iverson. "We did not have that early. They scored a lot of easy baskets in the paint. Once we got our defense together, our offense started clicking."

Spencer Hawes came off the bench and scored a team-high 19 points to go with six rebounds for Sacramento, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Beno Udrih chipped in 18 points and seven boards, while rookie Jason Thompson continued to show promise with a 15-point, nine-rebound effort.

"We have got to finish our games," said Thompson. "It is going to come down to controlling the ball and controlling the clock and protecting it, especially at home. We can not have turnovers like we did at the end."

The game went back and forth through the first five minutes of the fourth. Prince's two free throws gave the Pistons an 88-86 lead with 7:22 to play.

A Hamilton layup and a long Prince jumper pushed the lead to six with five minutes showing on the clock.

Sacramento was sloppy with the ball with six turnovers in the fourth quarter. Udrih turned the ball over with just over 1 1/2 minutes left, and Hamilton slipped by the defense for a layup and a 96-90 lead.

Hawes hit an eight-footer in the lane on the next possession, and Hamilton missed a baseline jumper to give the Kings a puncher's chance. But Miller's three-pointer at the top of the key fell short and Iverson nailed two free throws to break into the win column with his new club.

Both teams went on their requisite spurts in the first half. Sacramento jumped ahead 31-18 after 12 minutes of play, but Iverson carried Detroit with 10 points in the second frame to knot the game, 50-50, at the break.

Sacramento held the biggest lead of the third quarter after Udrih's jumper made it 63-57 midway through the frame, but Detroit battled back to trail just 77-75 heading to the final quarter.

Game Notes

Detroit faces Golden State Thursday in the second tilt of a four-game road trip, while Sacramento heads to Los Angeles to play the Clippers on Wednesday. The Kings were without guards Kevin Martin (left ankle) and Quincy Douby (right ankle), while the Pistons kept Rodney Stuckey in Detroit for follow-up testing after the guard experienced symptoms of light-headed and dizziness against Boston...Sacramento's John Salmons and Mikki Moore scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
