(My Sportsbook) - The New York Islanders will host a Veterans Day matinee when they welcome the Philadelphia Flyers for this afternoon's matchup at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Flyers and Islanders are the bottom two teams in the Atlantic Division. Philadelphia has 11 points on the year and New York is just one point behind in last place.

These teams met once already this season, as Philadelphia posted a 3-2 overtime victory over visiting New York on October 30. Overall, the Flyers have won five straight and eight of the last nine in the series and have taken two in a row and three of four on Long Island.

Philadelphia ended October on a four-game winning streak, but have opened the new month on a three-game slide. The Flyers were handed their most recent setback Saturday against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

Former Flyer Vinny Prospal netted the game-winner in the second period and Mike Smith made 35 stops as Tampa Bay snuck by Philly, 2-1, at the Wachovia Center.

In his return after missing only six games from abdominal surgery, Daniel Briere scored the lone goal for the Flyers. Martin Biron was the hard-luck loser after a 20-save performance.

On Friday, the Flyers acquired defenseman Matt Carle from Tampa Bay in exchange for defenseman Steve Eminger and forward Steve Downie. Carle played almost 26 minutes and was a minus-one.

The Flyers are 2-2-2 as the visiting team this season and are opening a three-game road trip today. The club will also make stops in Pittsburgh and Montreal on the swing.

The Islanders have lost two straight and eight of their last 10 contests. New York was able to gain a point in its most recent setback, as it was dealt a home shootout loss by Pittsburgh.

Petr Sykora netted the only goal of the shootout to lift the Penguins to the 4-3 win at the Coliseum.

Doug Weight started things off for New York with a backhander into the left pad and Sykora lifted a backhand shot over the glove of Joey MacDonald in close. Bill Guerin then had a forehand shot gloved by Dany Sabourin and Miroslav Satan fired a wrist shot into the shoulder of MacDonald.

Trent Hunter had a chance to extend the session for New York and fired a low shot that got caught up in Sabourin's left pad. The play had to reviewed as the netminder slid back into his own net but it was eventually upheld.

Weight had a goal and an assist with Andy Hilbert and Tim Jackman adding goals in a losing effort for New York. Andy Sutton contributed a pair of assists.

The Isles are just 2-5-1 as the host this year and are completing a brief two-game homestand tonight.
