(My Sportsbook) - The suddenly hot Atlanta Thrashers will aim for a fourth consecutive victory when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes this afternoon for a Southeast Division clash at RBC Center.

The Thrashers have won three straight contests on the heels of a six-game slide. Atlanta is still just 5-7-2 on the year, but that's not too bad considering the club lost nine of 11 games to begin the 2008-09 campaign.

Atlanta's most recent victory came Friday night in an overtime decision at Buffalo. Jason Williams' power-play goal 48 seconds into OT lifted the Thrashers to the 5-4 win over the Sabres at HSBC Arena.

Derek Roy was called for tripping at the 36-second mark of overtime and Atlanta took advantage. Ilya Kovalchuk fired a one-timer from the left circle that Ryan Miller stopped, but Williams grabbed the rebound and fired a backhander down low that found its way into the right corner of the net.

Bryan Little had two goals and one assist while Williams finished the game with two goals for the Thrashers. Johan Hedberg had 28 saves in the win.

Slava Kozlov, who had three assists, has five goals and four assists in a five-game point streak.

The win was the first on the road for Atlanta this season. The Thrashers, who are 1-4-2 as the visitor this year, will next play on Friday when they host the Hurricanes. This does not constitute a home-and-home series since Carolina will host Washington in between its two tests against Atlanta.

The Hurricanes have won three of their last four games and are coming off Friday's close victory against visiting Ottawa. Former Senator Joe Corvo netted the game-winning goal with 2:40 remaining in the third period and added an assist, as Carolina rallied past Ottawa, 2-1.

Dennis Seidenberg scored a power-play goal and Michael Leighton made 22 saves for the Hurricanes.

Carolina head coach Peter Laviolette earned his 240th NHL win, surpassing former Tampa Bay bench boss John Tortorella to become the winningest American- born coach in league history.

The Hurricanes are 3-2-0 as the host team this season and will wrap up a three-game homestand Wednesday against the Capitals.

Carolina has taken five straight and seven of the last 11 meetings with the Thrashers. Atlanta was also defeated in its previous two trips to Raleigh.
