Buffalo, NY (My Sportsbook) - Jason Williams' power-play goal 48 seconds into overtime lifted the Atlanta Thrashers to a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres at the HSBC Arena.

Derek Roy was called for tripping at the 36-second mark of overtime and Atlanta took advantage. Ilya Kovalchuk fired a one-timer from the left circle that Ryan Miller stopped, but Williams grabbed the rebound and fired a backhander down low that found its way into the right corner of the net.

Bryan Little had two goals and one assist while Williams finished the game with two goals for the Thrashers, who have won their last three games. Johan Hedberg had 28 saves in the win.

Thomas Vanek, Maxim Afinogenov, Ales Kotalik and Clarke MacArthur each had a goal for the Sabres, who had won their past two games. Miller, who posted shutouts in his previous two games, was charged with all five goals on 26 shots.

Atlanta got on the board just 4:12 into the contest as Kovalchuk flew into the Buffalo end and from the right boards threw a pass out front, where Williams collected the puck and wristed it home for his fourth goal of the year.

The Sabres, though, scored the next two goals in the frame to take a 2-1 lead.

Four minutes after the Atlanta goal, Henrik Tallinder skated down the right wing and backhanded a pass across the goalmouth to MacArthur, who banged the puck into the net.

Skating on the power play, the Sabres took the lead on Kotalik's slap shot with 1:20 left in the frame.

The Thrashers tied the game less than four minutes into the second as Little scored on a breakaway while being dragged to the ice.

Buffalo regained the lead at the 7:30 mark, as Afinogenov skated into the zone down the right wing and, from the circle, snapped a quick shot between the pads of Hedberg.

Little scored again, this time when he banged in a rebound off a Slava Kozlov shot, to tie the contest with 4:58 left in the second.

The Sabres, though, again took the lead as Vanek's slap shot from the high slot found its way through a screen and past Hedberg for a power-play goal just 50 seconds after Little's second goal.

Atlanta tied the game on the power play eight minutes into the third. A loose puck wound up near the right circle where Todd White battled for it. He fought off his checker and snapped a shot that found its way into the back of the net.
