Red Sox, Epstein agree to extension

Dana Point, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Boston Red Sox and general manager Theo Epstein have agreed to a new contract.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but Epstein told the Boston Globe on the first day of the annual GM meetings that he signed the deal "a while back." Terms of the contract weren't released.

Epstein became the youngest general manager in major league history at age 28 when he took over the Red Sox on November 25, 2002. In his second year at the helm, Boston swept the St. Louis Cardinals to capture the franchise's first World Series title since 1918.

Shortly after the conclusion of the 2005 campaign, Epstein resigned from the Red Sox, citing philosophical differences with president and chief executive officer Larry Lucchino. He returned a few months later and inked a three-year contract which was set to expire at the end of the 2008 season.

In 2007, Boston won its second championship in four seasons with a sweep of the Colorado Rockies.
