San Jose, CA (My Sportsbook) - Joe Pavelski and Jamie McGinn each had a goal and an assist in San Jose's 4-2 victory over Detroit in a battle of Western Conference powers.
Evgeni Nabokov stopped all but two of 27 shots between the pipes for San Jose, which is perfect in six home tests this season with a 9-2-0 overall record for its best start in franchise history.
Patrick Marleau and Ryane Clowe also scored in the victory.
Ty Conklin fell for the first time in four starts this season, letting up four goals on 33 shots for Detroit, which had not lost in regulation since falling 3-2 in its season opener to Toronto.
Brian Rafalski and Marian Hossa each recorded goals for the Red Wings.
Neither team recorded a goal in the opening 20 minutes, but Hossa's quick snap shot from the right circle beat Nabokov 18 seconds into the second period.
The Sharks responded with two goals in just over two minutes of play, the first coming when Joe Thornton fed Marleau in front of the net for the tying score at the 7:01 mark of the second.
McGinn's hustle behind the net two minutes later led to his first NHL goal and a 2-1 edge for the hosts.
"My parents definitely will get the first phone call," McGinn said of his memorable tally. "This was a special game. I had a blast out there again. I'm going to enjoy every minute while I'm up here and play hard every shift out there."
With Hossa in the penally box for tripping 9:14 into the frame, Tomas Plihal found Clowe wide open in the slot for the Sharks' third goal of the period.
"They made a couple of good plays and certainly we knew that was going to be part of their game plan, getting pucks to the net and putting pucks at the net from bad angles too," Conklin said.
San Jose continued putting the pressure on in the third period. The Wings once again let a trailer get behind the play, and Devin Setoguchi fed the streaking Pavelski for a three-goal lead.
Detroit scored in garbage time when Tomas Kopecky and Rafalski's give-and-go resulted in a goal with just 32 seconds remaining in the game.
"The bottom line was [the Sharks] were better from start to finish," Detroit head coach Mike Babcock said. "They were quicker, they were harder, they were faster."
